A Mechanism for Peace

I am troubled by the resourcefulness of violence. If an AR-15 wasn’t on the market, Adam Lanza would’ve reached for the Glock or Sig in his waistband. If his pistols were gone, he might have found a shotgun. If the shotgun wasn’t there, he’d have made Molotovs or pipe bombs. And if explosives weren’t handy, Lanza could always find a kitchen knife. There is no valve to shut the cycle of violence in this world, and it pains me. But if there is always a mechanism for violence, then there is also a mechanism for peace. And for all the good we can do in this world, for our family or our friends, we acknowledge to such evils that “We are not like them!”
