Still hacking away at Nat’l Poetry Writing Month, I’m using today to honor the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty and the sacrifice of innocent lives.
Chambered rounds have no qualms
about the plight of their next target
nor the weapons that fire them
nor the money that buys them
nor the hands that wield them.
Chambered voices will always fight
for the lives before the bullets
and the homes beneath the fires
and the land that falls to ruin
and the suffering running rampant.
Champions of victims may live to see the day
when all the guns are silent
and the killers disappear
and the nightmares go away
and the peace is made eternal.
